Control Systems Support Engineer

Job Purpose

The control system support engineer will work within our highly skilled, customer facing support team, providing direct technical and operational support to our key clients systems.

The role is varied and interesting, encompassing a wide variety of skills. The role is ideally suited to an enthusiastic, problem solver with a keen ability to analyse, diagnose and correct problems across all levels in PLC, HMI, SCADA, network and LV electrical systems.

The overview of this new varied and interesting role includes:

  • Office based role with site support visits to local companies
  • Providing PLC, HMI, SCADA and LV Electrical support for varied client base
  • Fault finding control system-based issues
  • Undertake modifications to existing electrical control systems
  • On-site control system support when required
  • Preparation of quotations related to the support services
  • Participate in company 24/7 on-call rota (up to 2 weeks per month)
  • Assist Support Manager with provision of support contracts
  • Undertaking of work/support offshore for the oil and gas sector

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Writing detailed documentation, such as functional design specifications, test specification and final user documentation
  • Production of system drawings, general arrangements, schematics and schedules
  • Configuration of system architecture, network connections, build of system platforms
  • Production, modification, testing and commissioning of SCADA & PLC software
  • UK Site commissioning (which may involve short periods away from home)
  • Technical support to sales teams

Control Systems Support Engineer Requirements

  • Experience using various Rockwell Automation PLC, Allen Bradley PLC, HMI and SCADA packages predominantly:
    • RSLogix5, RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, Studio5000, RSView32 and FactoryTalk
  • Exposure to any Siemens PLC, HMI and SCADA packages would be advantageous
  • Exposure to any Schneider/Modicon PLC, HMI and SCADA packages would be advantageous
  • Strong engineering background with a technical knowledge of Control, Automation and Safety Systems applications, equipment and terminology
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude and methodical approach to problem solving
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to help build the company support base
  • Resolving of control system support issues relating to PLC, HMI, SCADA and Various communications methods via office remote connection or site visit.
  • Participating in annual maintenance visits to various local sites to undertake backups and quotation capture.
  • Participate in the company 24/7 callout rota. This could be up to 2 weeks per month.
  • Preparation of service related quotations including upgrades, replacements and enhancements of existing equipment and systems.
  • Work on small control system projects full lifecycle from quotation stage through to final commissioning.
  • Help the Support Manager increase the Small Projects and Support workload by generating further work with existing clients
  • Experience working offshore would be advantageous, but training will be provided subject to eligibility and passing medical
  • Clean UK Driving License
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK

Job Type:    Full-time

Salary Range: £35k to £45k dependent upon experience

Education:        Bachelor’s or higher level relevant qualification

Experience:      Systems engineering: 3 to 5 years

Language:         English (required)
